About the role

West Northamptonshire Council is looking for a dynamic and innovative person to be our Early Education and childcare lead.

In this new post you will work closely with the strategic lead to help shape and drive the strategic direction of the Early Years sector across our authority.

You will manage a team of talented individuals and work in partnership with maintained nursery schools, PVI settings, Child minders and out of hours providers to deliver our statutory duties.

What will you be doing?

You will have operational oversight of the Early Years Team including funding streams and Early Years advisers. You will build on and develop the Early years network groups and lead a team in developing the family information service. You will work with the strategic lead to develop a comprehensive CPD offer for settings and providers and ensure sufficiency across West Northamptonshire.

As part of the role, you will be expected to provide reports and statistical analysis to senior leaders and external agencies such as Ofsted, DfE as and when required and will attend regional partnership meetings on behalf of the service and local authority.

In partnership with the strategic lead, to ensure that the service adapts to changes to the national and local agenda.

About you

You will have extensive knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and early child development and will advocate for inclusive practice. You will have a sound understanding of Ofsted  inspections and current Government initiatives for children 0-5. In addition you will knowledgeable about Early Years funding mechanisms and requirements. 

You must be educated to degree level, or equivalent and will have experience of working in an early years setting. In addition, you will have experience of  working and leading a team of professionals, managing, setting and monitoring budgets, producing high quality reports for a varied audience, working under pressure and delivering to deadlines.

You will be able to use your own initiative and be flexible in approach. Excellent communication and presentation skills are required; good knowledge and practical use of information and communication technology is essential for the role.
