About the role

Do you enjoy making a difference to your local community?  Are you curious and you spot things that others might not see?  Do you enjoy building lasting relationships?

If the answer is yes, then this is an opportunity for you.

We have changed the way that we structure our Longer-Term support teams in Cambridgeshire and have an opportunity for you to join our Living in Care Home Review Team.

We are looking for an experienced professional to join us as a Senior Social Worker.

The team are responsible for residential and nursing care customer reviews in and out of the county and as part of the team you will be dedicated to a specific geographical area, giving you the ability to develop long lasting relationships with customers, their families, and our providers.

We’ve changed a lot but one thing’s for sure, we still love Social Workers. Join us and be part of an authority that has accepted the challenge to constantly improve.

We are looking for exceptional Social Workers to join us on our journey.  If you would like an informal chat about this role please contact Deborah Stickler-Singh, Living in Care Home Review Team Manager, on 07867811767.

Alternatively, get in touch with us today by calling Nathalie on 01223 699263, email us on welovesocialworkers@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or visit our website for more information.

This is a rolling campaign, and we will review applications daily so please don't wait for the closing date to apply, we want to speak to you now!

We know that your time is precious, so our interviews are generally held virtually, by Microsoft Teams, to provide the most flexible recruitment process. We may include a virtual assessment as part of this, but we’ll give you all of the relevant information ahead of time.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

What will you be doing?

You'll need to be inquisitive and willing to spend time finding out what it's like from your customers point of view to live in the setting that they do and build knowledge to improve the quality of living for your customers. You'll need to have excellent observation skills to spot strengths and notice what's lacking and let the facts drive your ability to give constructive feedback and provide evidence based, proportionate recording. Your curiosity should also mean that you enjoy keeping up to date with current good practice, doing relevant research and building your own knowledge.

This is not your typical team - there will be an opportunity to broaden your own skills and training by working alongside nurses and learning about medical practices and you will support providers and share your knowledge and experience. Completing Mental Capacity Act Assessments, Continuing Health Care checklists and attending Decision Support Tool meetings and engaging with Advocacy Services will be part of the role but you do not need to be an expert, full training and support will be provided.

There will be an occasional need to support working out-side of core working hours (early morning / late evening) and support over weekends. This is only occasional due to potential provider failure or emergency situations.

About you

Experience or a willingness to work with a variety of partner organisations is vital to working in this team and you'll need to enjoy networking and influencing others to see things differently. You will be able to work autonomously and have the flexibility to manage your own workload in a hybrid way that allows you to work from the residential settings in your patch.

Most of all, you put the individual at the heart of everything and you ensure their choices are being respected and supported.

You must:

  • Be a qualified Social Worker with a Social Work England registration
  • Have the ability to work from a variety of locations and travel countywide independently
