About the role

Are you passionate about supporting others with their health by building upon sustainable long-term changes?

We are looking to recruit two Stop Smoking Advisors on 4-year fixed term contracts, to join the North Northamptonshire Public Health Team’s Stop Smoking Service. You will be part of our highly skilled team who are dedicated to supporting our local residents who smoke to stop smoking. This is an exciting time to join our stop smoking service, as we have received additional funding to expand our service and support more people to quit smoking.

This is a hybrid role with its base at Sheerness House in Kettering, with clinics able to be delivered virtually and face-to-face, therefore applicants should be able to travel between locations in the North Northamptonshire area.

Your application should be structured on the essential and desirable criteria in the job description and person specification.

The two posts are fixed term appointments for a 4-year period.

The closing date for these posts is Wednesday 12th February 2025, 4pm.

In-person interviews will be held between Monday 24th February and Thursday 27th February.

If you have any further questions about this role, please contact smokefree@northnorthants.gov.uk

What will you be doing?

As a stop smoking advisor, you will support clients over 12-weeks to quit smoking successfully. You will do this by delivering evidence-based smoking cessation interventions including behavioural counselling and recommending stop smoking medications. The role requires managing your own caseload of clients, working within recommended protocols and guidance and recording progress of clients on an IT system. You will report to a Stop smoking specialist and may also support broader community projects being undertaken by the stop smoking service.

About you

We are seeking applicants with excellent personable and motivational skills, who are passionate about supporting people to make positive change. The successful applicants will also have effective organisational and communication skills, which are essential for managing a caseload and delivering individual clinics and other project work. A willingness to undertake the relevant training will be required. Above all, we are keen to attract people who will embrace the values and behaviours of North Northamptonshire Council to support services which positively impact our clients.
