About the role

Cambridgeshire County Council are recruiting permanent Independent Chairs.

Independent Chairs work within Safeguarding and Quality Assurance and are responsible for chairing statutory Child in Care Reviews (in the role of Independent Reviewing Officer) and Child Protection Conferences.  

This post-holder will need to have the skills and expertise to manage a caseload of children in care and children subject to a child protection plan depending on the need of the service. 

The role requires a social work qualification with at least 5 years post qualifying experience in the field of social work with children. As an Independent Chair, you will be asked to chair multi-agency Conferences and Reviews and will take the lead in ensuring the plans for children are SMART.

What will you be doing?

Your work will involve developing relationships with children and their families, ensuring that the child’s voice is central to the planning. You will also need to have the skills to communicate effectively with the multi-agency network, and the confidence to escalate any issues of drift or delay directly to senior managers where necessary.
 
This post requires an agile worker who is flexible, adaptable, and able to travel to meetings both in and out of county. The office base of the post-holder is negotiable as the service has bases in Wisbech, Huntingdon and Cambridge.

You will be supported in your role through regular 1:1 supervision and monthly team meetings.

We're looking for confident and dynamic individuals who enjoy making a difference in their local community, are curious and spot things that others might not see, enjoys building relationships and likes to explore possibilities.

You must:

  • Be a qualified Social Worker with a Social Work England registration
  • Have the ability to work from a variety of locations and travel countywide independently
